History

Understanding Ontario’s places of worship requires some context with the province’s history. For example, Canadian immigration in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries brought people from around the world. Places of worship were built to accommodate these new settlers. While those ethnic-based communities may or may not still exist within those towns and settlements, their places of worship remind us of the people who built these communities.
