Please join the Ontario Heritage Trust, in partnership with the City of Belleville and the Hastings County Historical Society, as we unveil a provincial plaque commemorating The Flying Frenchmen – Jean-Baptiste “Jack” Laviolette 1879-1960.

After the Montreal Canadiens were formed in 1909, Belleville-born Jean-Baptiste “Jack” Laviolette (1879-1960) was hired as the playing-manager and captain. With teammates Édouard “Newsy” Lalonde and Didier “Cannonball” Pitre, Laviolette led the team to its first Stanley Cup championship in 1916, before retiring two years later.

This is the first in a series of three provincial plaques honouring The Flying Frenchmen.
