Memories of Wasaga Beach

From February 15-21, 2021

Wasaga Beach, 1940s

Join the Wasaga Beach Historical Advisory Committee and the Town of Wasaga Beach Archives as we take a trip down memory lane to experience some moments from our rich and fascinating past. We have six historical, narrated videos for your viewing pleasure that will allow you to understand how it all began – including Keeping History Alive, Memories of the Capstan Inn, Wasaga Beach Cottage Life, The Dardanella Dance Hall, The Origins of the Archives and Wasaga Beach Bridges – all of which will offer a glimpse into the past of the town that is nestled on the shores of the world’s longest freshwater beach.

Along the way, you will learn about the McLean family (early settlers who built the historical Capstan Inn) and the Dardanella Dance Hall. You can also experience firsthand what cottage life was like here in the 1950s and 1960s, or find information about our many bridges and how they were built.

Taking a look back at the interesting life of our first archivist, Thelma Morrison will allow you to gain an understanding of her determination to preserve the history of Wasaga Beach and its many historical artifacts.

We are confident that you will enjoy this virtual journey and hope that you will come and visit us for a tour of our Town Archives when circumstances permit!
