The First World War letters of George Gallie Nasmith: A genealogical adventure
Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 10:30 a.m.
Patty McGregor leads the discussion at the Annual General Meeting of the Kingston Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society with an interesting presentation about the First World War correspondence of George Gallie Nasmith – a chemist for the provincial Board of Health and the Director of Laboratories at the Toronto Department of Public Health. Nasmith tried to enlist for service during the First World War and was almost turned down because of his height. A condition called achondroplasia had stunted his growth and he stood just four-foot-six. But as a sanitation expert with the City of Toronto, he believed that he could help the Canadian army.
