Introduction to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission
Sunday, February 28, 2021 at 2 p.m.
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission was established during the First World War to honour and manage the gravesites of Commonwealth soldiers. It now maintains 23,000 sites in over 150 countries and commemorates 1.7 million Commonwealth men and women who lost their lives in both the First and Second World Wars.
Presenter Coral Harkies (founder of Birch Tree Genealogy) will provide an overview of the history and the future of the commission, the types of information and records for both the locations and the fallen soldiers commemorated by the commission, and the ongoing work to ensure that none of the those who sacrificed their lives for the Commonwealth will be forgotten.
