Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 6 p.m.
The Belleville Public Library is excited to connect with the Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society & Black Mecca Museum for a special webinar in recognition of Black History Month.
Learn about Chatham’s historical Black community and Black heritage. Formerly known as “The Forks,” Chatham was a safe haven for fugitive slaves coming across on the Underground Railroad. Though freedom was gained once in Canada, the Black community still faced a difficult time. Segregation and racism were still faced after their freedom, but the Black community overcame and became prosperous in Chatham.
Learn about a few of the hard-working, skilled and educated Black men and women who came to Chatham and helped build their community.
Register in advance for this webinar. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
