Unveiling of a provincial plaque commemorating Trooper Lorne Mulloy

Join the Ontario Heritage Trust and the Trooper Lorne Mulloy Memorial Committee on June 23, 2023 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Iroquois as we unveil a provincial plaque to honour Trooper Lorne Mulloy. The plaque will be permanently installed at the Iroquois United Church Cemetery following the ceremony.

Born near Winchester, Lorne Mulloy enlisted with the Canadian Mounted Rifles after high school and embarked for the South African War in February 1900. Months later, he was blinded in battle. Despite blindness, Mulloy went on to earn degrees from Queen’s, Oxford and Osgoode Hall Law School, and taught at Kingston’s Royal Military College. He campaigned tirelessly for veterans’ rights and rehabilitation and helped create the Great War Veterans’ Association of Canada and the Royal Canadian Legion. His life is a remarkable story of achievement in the face of adversity.
