Grenville Militia drill re-enactment at Homewood Museum

Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 2 p.m. and Sunday, August 24, 2014 at 10 a.m.

The Grenville Militia performs a military drill re-enactment at Homewood Museum on Saturday, August 23 and Sunday, August 24.

The Grenville Militia portrays the militia of Grenville County during the War of 1812. Each member is trained in period British Army tactics including skirmishing, formation, marching and musket use.

Crafts and activities are available for children during the drills.

A tour of Homewood Museum will be offered before and after the drills. This 200-year-old stone house was built by Dr. Solomon Jones, a United Empire Loyalist in 1800. Homewood was inhabited by five generations of the Jones family, including Dunham Jones, who was a captain during the War of 1812.

Homewood is open for tours until Sunday, August 31, with tours Wednesday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $1.50 for children and youth 3 to 16, plus HST.

Homewood Museum – a National Historic Site – is owned and operated by the Ontario Heritage Trust, an agency of the Government of Ontario, dedicated to identifying, preserving, protecting and promoting Ontario’s heritage.
