1939 – Doris McCarthy purchased a property overlooking the Scarborough Bluffs
1940 – Forest Telfer hired to build a small cottage
1947 – The small studio and attached garage are constructed
1960 – The large studio is constructed
1963 – The flag stone patio is constructed
1964 – The pond is constructed
1986 – To help control erosion, McCarthy donated seven acres (approximately two hectares) of ravine land to the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority
1994 – Chapter House (i.e., the Study) is built
1998 – McCarthy donated the remaining five acres (approximately two hectares) of Fool’s Paradise to the Ontario Heritage Trust and maintained a life tenancy
2000 – The garage was converted into the site custodian’s suite
2001 – The nature trail in Bellamy Ravine named the Doris McCarthy Trail by the City of Toronto
2005 – The Ontario Heritage Trust erected a provincial plaque to commemorate Doris McCarthy and Fool’s Paradise
2010 – Doris McCarthy died on November 25, 2010
2014 – The Ontario Heritage Trust launched the Doris McCarthy Artist-in-Residence Centre
